On December 20, 2024, Foreign Trade University organized the Academic Year 2023 - 2024 Summary Ceremony and the Orientation Plan for the Academic Year 2024 - 2025 for Lao students.
Attending the ceremony, on behalf of the Embassy of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Vietnam, were Dr. Khamton Samvong - Education and Culture Counselor of the Lao Embassy, and Mr. Vanpheng Phayamath - First Secretary.
Representing Foreign Trade University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Thi Hien – Vice President; Dr. Bui Lien Ha – Head of the Department of Political and Student Affairs; M.A. Nguyen Huyen Minh - Head of the Department of Communications & Community Relations; M.A. Dao Thi Thu Ha - Deputy Director of International Affairs; M.A. Dinh Thuy Tien - Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union; along with faculty members and Lao students studying at the university.
In his speech at the ceremony, Dr. Khamton Samvong encouraged the Lao students and expressed gratitude to the university’s leadership, faculty, and staff for their support of Lao students at Foreign Trade University.
Speaking at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Thi Hien happily shared that the current number of Lao students at Foreign Trade University is 28, including 25 undergraduate students, 2 master’s students, and 1 Ph.D. candidate. Over the past academic year, Lao students have actively participated in cultural exchange activities, diversifying the learning environment, and strengthening the friendship between Vietnam and Laos. Some of the outstanding achievements of Lao students include winning First Place in the Mixed Doubles and Men’s Singles at the FTU Olympic 2024; a Lao student being a member of the championship-winning team of the "Social Business Creation 2024" global competition; winning First Prize for the most favorite dish at "International Night 2024"; securing Third Place in the "Huong Tet" competition celebrating the Lunar New Year 2024; actively engaging in sports exchange programs, ASEAN cultural performances, and contributing significantly to cultural exchange events such as welcoming General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, celebrating the 48th National Day of the Lao PDR (December 2, 1975 - December 2, 2023), and commemorating the 103rd birthday of President Kaysone Phomvihane (December 13, 1920 - December 13, 2023); participating in the sports festival and football tournament for the Youth Union Secretary’s Cup of the Lao Embassy in Vietnam.
During the event, Phonemany Savanh - Head of the Lao Student Delegation, presented a detailed report on the achievements of Lao students and expressed deep gratitude to Foreign Trade University for providing an excellent learning environment and opportunities.
In recognition of their outstanding contributions to university activities as well as events hosted by the Lao Embassy, six Lao students currently studying at Foreign Trade University were honored with certificates of merit from the Embassy of the Lao PDR in Vietnam. Additionally, the university awarded commendations to two Lao students for their exceptional academic and extracurricular achievements, serving as a great motivation for the Lao student community at Foreign Trade University.
The ceremony concluded in an atmosphere of excitement and enthusiasm, instilling great confidence for the new academic year. It is hoped that these achievements will pave the way for future generations of Lao students, enriching the academic environment and fostering cultural exchange at Foreign Trade University.
