On October 3, 2025, Foreign Trade University, with the Vietnam–Japan Human Resources Development Institute (VJCC) as the lead organizing unit, collaborated with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and partner universities in Japan to successfully co-organize the 5th Vietnam–Japan International Business Conference (VJIBC#05-2025) under the theme “Creating and Leveraging Resources and Capabilities for Sustainable Business Development in the Dynamic Global Landscape.”

Following the success of the previous four VJIBC conferences held alternately at Foreign Trade University and Rikkyo University (Tokyo, Japan), VJIBC#05-2025 served as an important highlight in the series of activities commemorating the University’s 65th anniversary, attracting a large number of scholars and experts from Vietnam, Japan, and around the world.

On behalf of Foreign Trade University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien – Vice President – presented a token of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Gene Thompson – Director of the Bilingual Business Leader Program, College of Business, Rikkyo University – in recognition of the profound and long-standing comprehensive cooperation between the two universities in organizing VJIBC and in training and research activities.

In the plenary session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tomohiro Machikita from the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University (Japan), who also serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Developing Economies and the Japanese Journal of Southeast Asian Studies, delivered the keynote presentation, offering in-depth analysis based on his extensive expertise in Southeast Asian economies.

The roundtable discussion took place in a vibrant atmosphere under the moderation of Dr. Hoang Anh Duy – Head of Business Practice Division, VJCC Institute. The session featured academic representatives – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tomohiro Machikita – and business representatives – Mr. Nguyen Dao Vinh (Chairman & CEO of Van Vina JSC) and Mr. Nguyen Trong Thuong (CEO of ETEK Automation JSC).

At the conference, Mr. Kubo Yoshitomo – Deputy Head of JICA Vietnam Office – extended his congratulations to VJIBC#05-2025 and praised the quality of the discussions, particularly the keynote on diversification strategies and approaches to overcoming uncertainties to foster sustainable development. 

In the closing remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien affirmed that VJIBC#05-2025 is a major academic event celebrating the 65th anniversary of Foreign Trade University, highlighting the significance of multilateral cooperation in sustainable business development. He emphasized that the gathering of universities, scholars, businesses, and domestic and international organizations at the Conference has strengthened the foundation for building shared capacities.
