On the morning of March 24, 2023, H.E. Marc E. Knapper, the US Ambassador to Vietnam, paid a visit to Foreign Trade University and shared insights on the topic of "ElevatingUS-Vietnam Economic Relations" with over 300 students, including students at the university's Hanoi headquarters as well as its campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ninh.
The program was graced by the presence of notable figures from the US Embassy in Vietnam, including H.E. Marc E. Knapper, the Ambassador, Ms. Kate Bartlett, the United States Cultural Attaché, Mr. Christopher Ellis, the Economic Officer, and other Embassy staff.
On the side of Foreign Trade University, representatives included Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Anh Tuan, President of Foreign Trade University, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Thu Huong, the Vice President, Dr. Nguyen Binh Minh, the Director of the Quang Ninh Campus, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Cao Dinh Kien, Director of Office of International Affairs, Ms. Dao Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of Office of International Affairs, along with the heads and deputy heads of university units, officials, teachers and numerous students.
Ambassador Marc E. Knapper, speaking on the theme of "ElevatingUS-Vietnam Economic Relations," highlighted that in the post-COVID-19 pandemic context, the doors for international cooperation have only just reopened. Vietnam stands as a market with robust growth and numerous potential opportunities for American business partners. In 2022, Vietnam emerged as one of the United States' top eight partners, with the US becoming Vietnam's first-ever export market to surpass the $100 billion/year milestone, thus becoming Vietnam's largest export market in 2022.
Emphasizing the crucial role of the younger generation, H.E. Marc E. Knapper stressed the importance of equipping young individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a diverse working environment. Notably, Foreign Trade University was recognized as a key institution that helps young people gain access to an international learning and working environment.
Ambassador also commended Foreign Trade University for its initiative in hosting the 6th Forum on Internationalization in Higher Education (FIHE 6) on March 16, recognizing the institution as a leader in international collaboration, which forms a solid foundation for cooperation with US educational institutions.
