From June 30 to July 13, 2024, Foreign Trade University (FTU) hosted a group of students from ISC Paris Business School (France) for a short-term program focused on study, experience, and cultural exchange in Vietnam.
Foreign Trade University and ISC Paris Business School, France, have been close partners since 2013 and have successfully organized student exchange programs over the years.
During the welcome ceremony for the ISC students on July 1, 2024, M.Ed. Dao Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of International Affairs, delivered a welcome speech, warmly greeting the students. She emphasized the importance of international integration, stating that all students coming to FTU become part of the FTU family. She expressed her hope that the students would have wonderful and meaningful experiences at FTU and in Vietnam as a whole.
Throughout the two-week program, the ISC Paris students engaged in academic exchanges and cultural interactions that provided them with many valuable and interesting experiences. The program included specialized lectures on Vietnamese culture, history, law, economy, and business environment, held at both the main campus in Hanoi and the Quang Ninh campus, giving students a deeper understanding of the beautiful country of Vietnam.
Additionally, the students visited and explored the operations of Vietnamese businesses such as Tan Do Beverage Company Limited and Uniben Joint Stock Company. The ISC students also had the opportunity to participate in cultural exchange activities aimed at fostering cooperation and friendship between the two schools, as well as attending a business startup sharing session and experiencing cooking traditional Vietnamese dishes. Notably, the ISC students had the chance to visit famous landmarks such as the Temple of Literature, Hoa Lo Prison, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, the Trang An Landscape Complex, Hoa Lu in Ninh Bình, and Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its majestic and poetic beauty.
This trip was not only an opportunity to gain knowledge but also helped the ISC Paris students gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture and people. The enthusiastic support from FTU students, staff, and faculty, as well as the businesses involved in the program, contributed to the success of the study and exchange trip. With the rich and meaningful experiences gained, this trip will undoubtedly serve as a valuable asset, helping the exchange students gain further insights into the culture, business, and life in Vietnam.












On July 24, 2024, Foreign Trade University (FTU) collaborated with the Vietnam Office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA Vietnam) to organize a special lecture by Professor Tran Van Tho, Emeritus Professor at Waseda University (Japan), with the theme "Innovating Growth Models: Lessons from Japan and Implications for Vietnam."
This special lecture was conducted as part of the series of activities under the JICA Chair Program. Since 2020, JICA has launched the JICA Chair Program, targeting research institutions and leading universities in developing countries to expand opportunities for sharing experiences and lessons learned from development cooperation projects and Japan’s modernization efforts. In Vietnam, JICA began implementing the program in 2021, including activities such as donating books to research institutions on Japan and organizing special lectures by renowned scholars from Japan. In the future, JICA will continue to collaborate with partners to further promote Japan studies in Vietnam and contribute to Vietnam’s sustainable socio-economic development.
Attendees of the program from JICA Vietnam included Mr. Sugano Yuichi, Chief Representative of the Vietnam Office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA Vietnam). From Foreign Trade University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien, Vice President of the University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hoang Nam, Head of the Department of Research Administration; and Heads/Deputy Heads of various units within the university were present. The lecture attracted the participation of over 150 lecturers, students, and interested individuals from private enterprises.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Sugano Yuichi, Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam, emphasized the objectives of the JICA Chair Program. In Vietnam, besides organizing special lectures like this one by renowned scholars from Japan, JICA Vietnam also engages in activities such as donating books to research institutions on Japan. Moving forward, JICA will continue to collaborate with partners to further promote Japan studies in Vietnam and contribute to Vietnam's sustainable socio-economic development. On this occasion, Mr. Sugano Yuichi expressed his gratitude to Foreign Trade University and Professor Tran Van Tho for collaborating with JICA to organize this meaningful program.

Following the opening, Professor Tran Van Tho, Emeritus Professor at Waseda University, presented his lecture on the topic "Innovating Growth Models: Lessons from Japan and Implications for Vietnam."
Professor Tran Van Tho was a former member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Group. Previously, he served in the economic and administrative reform advisory group of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet and collaborated with the policy research team of the late Prime Minister Phan Van Khai. He was one of the first three foreigners invited to serve in multiple terms on the Prime Minister of Japan's Economic Advisory Council. He has also served as an advisor to various Japanese government agencies. Professor Tran Van Tho is the author of several publications in both Japanese and Vietnamese on the economies of Asia, Japan, and Vietnam. His research focuses on economic policy, development economics, international economics, and Asian economics.
In 2010, Vietnam achieved middle-income status and was expected to join the ranks of upper-middle-income countries. However, the country now faces challenges such as avoiding the middle-income trap and transitioning to a high-income country by 2045, as outlined in its national goals.
To achieve the goal of economic restructuring towards high value-added industries, JICA and Foreign Trade University have been conducting training activities since 2000 for entrepreneurs who play a crucial role in developing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and supporting industries through the Vietnam-Japan Human Resources Cooperation Center (VJCC). More than 800 students have completed VJCC’s advanced business program, known as Keieijuku. Many of them have established business relationships with foreign companies, particularly Japanese firms, contributing to Vietnam’s economic and social development.
In this program, with a focus on introducing key growth models, the speaker highlighted lessons for Vietnam from Japan’s experiences. Professor Tran Van Tho stated: "For Vietnam to avoid the middle-income trap and achieve the goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045, it is essential to maintain labor productivity growth and advance economic restructuring. This is the foundation for increasing labor productivity, changing competitive advantages, and maintaining competitiveness in the international market. Moreover, in this process, both capital accumulation and innovation are important, and government policies should aim at enhancing investment efficiency, encouraging innovation, and setting goals for training high-quality human resources to promote economic restructuring." These points were also emphasized in the lecture.
Speaking at the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien, Vice President of the University, affirmed that in recent years, Foreign Trade University has focused on four main research areas, including the "Innovation of Socio-Economic Institutions for Sustainable Development." The university has carried out many research tasks, provided policy advice, and organized numerous forums, conferences, and international seminars to discuss drivers, address bottlenecks, and research policy proposals to innovate growth models and achieve sustainable development in Vietnam. With this aim in mind, today’s event is of great significance for the university's research and policy advisory activities and contributes to proposing new ideas and policies to innovate Vietnam’s growth model. On behalf of Foreign Trade University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien expressed sincere thanks to JICA Vietnam for the opportunity to co-organize the JICA Chair Program at Foreign Trade University, as well as to Professor Tran Van Tho for his time and dedication in sharing his insights, contributing to the process of innovating Vietnam’s growth model. On March 27, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien, Vice President of the University, chaired a meeting with a working delegation from Elsevier Publishing.
On January 29, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien - Vice President of Foreign Trade University chaired a reception and working session with Curtin University on the cooperation between the two universities in implementing the Bachelor of Commerce in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

Visiting and working with the university, from Curtin University, there were Prof. Rob Evans - Head of the School of Business and International Law; Dr. S Zaung Nau - Program Coordinator of the Bachelor of Commerce program in Logistics and Supply Chain Management; Ms. Monica Wong - Global Partnership Consultant; and Ms. Tiffany Pham - Recruitment Director in Vietnam.

From Foreign Trade University, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien - Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Thuy Ngoc – Dean of the Faculty of International Training; Assoc. Prof. Rob Evans introduced Curtin University, which is ranked 183rd in the world university rankings (according to QS ranking in 2024) and is among the top 1% of universities in the world highly regarded for its academic achievements (according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2022). Currently, besides the main campus in Perth, Australia, Curtin University also has 4 other campuses in Dubai, Malaysia, Mauritius, and Singapore. Perth, where the main campus of Curtin University is located, is a multicultural city with a diverse community from over 200 countries and serves as the gateway to the West of Australia, close to Asian countries. Thanks to the city's position, 30% of Curtin University's students are international students from countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mongolia, and China... Prof. Rob Evans also proposed further cooperation programs such as research collaboration and faculty exchange.

In response to Prof. Rob Evans, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien stated that the joint training programs are attracting the attention of parents and high school students due to the combination of international training and application in the Vietnamese market. Especially, the logistics and supply chain management field is highly sought after due to the current trend of globalizing the world economy, with trade between countries growing strongly. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien also evaluated Curtin University as a suitable partner for the development strategy of the university. He also mentioned that promoting research programs is one of the university's key objectives, and he suggested that Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ho Thuy Ngoc have further discussions with Curtin University to soon implement research cooperation programs.
During this working visit, the delegation from Curtin University also had a direct meeting with lecturers and students of the Bachelor of Commerce program in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Dr. S Zaung Nau shared about the study program at Curtin University. In addition to studying, doing projects, and presenting to businesses for internships, students also have the opportunity to visit and practice at large transportation companies such as DHL. Besides, Dr. Nau also guided the lecturers and students of the program on the Curtin University's learning system and submission of assignments to prepare for the upcoming semester.
The meeting was very enjoyable and intimate, narrowing the distance between students, the school, and the partner institution, creating a friendly and effective learning environment, with students at the center in line with the educational philosophy of both schools.

This is the first visit of Curtin University to Campus II since the signing of the training partnership agreement between the two institutions in the Bachelor of Commerce program specializing in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. This visit marks the beginning of a long-term cooperation journey between Campus II of the Foreign Trade University in Ho Chi Minh City and Curtin University to provide students with opportunities to access top-quality education in Australia through collaborative training programs.
During the academic exchange, both sides negotiated and reached an agreement on coordinating international training program management, including program information, academic semesters, and transfer information, providing many advantages for students. Additionally, representatives from both institutions discussed and strengthened cooperation in research and teaching, with the Curtin University delegation and Campus II leadership outlining many potential development cooperation directions in the near future.

On February 01, 2024, the Office of International Affairsof Foreign Trade University organized a Consultation and Information Introduction Session on the student exchange program for the first semester of the academic year 2024 - 2025 for students interested in the exchange program to study in August, September 2024.
To start the program, Ms. Dao Thi Thu Ha - Deputy Directorof the Office of International Affairs delivered a welcoming speech to the students participating in the Consultation Session. The student exchange program is an open opportunity for all students of the University. By participating in the program, students will have the opportunity to experience academic exchange in another country with reasonable costs as well as enjoy all the benefits from the study policies, visa, and the opportunity to have credits recognized during the exchange semester at Foreign Trade University. At the end of her speech, she hoped that the students could find useful information they are seeking at the Consultation Session and find their desired university.

At the Consultation and Information Introduction Session, the students of Foreign Trade University were introduced to the general process of participating in the exchange program, the requirements, conditions for student participation, and the important timelines to note for the upcoming first semester exchange program of the academic year 2024 - 2025. The students were also advised on choosing the target university based on their current profile and financial ability, as well as how to set smart preferences to increase their chances of admission.
The Consultation and Information Introduction Session also featured the presence of former exchange students - students who had just returned to study at the University from the exchange semester of the academic year 2023 - 2024 in Norway, France, Spain, South Korea, Japan, and international students currently studying on exchange at the university to provide brief and visual introductions to the destinations that the students are about to study in the upcoming first semester of the academic year 2024 - 2025. The attending students had the opportunity to get acquainted, make friends with the Foreign Trade University students and international students, interact with each other, and exchange information to learn more about culture, education, listen to interesting shares, and some points to note when studying in a foreign country.

On January 19, 2024, the University of New Brunswick (Canada) organized a meeting with international students fromForeign Trade University to congratulate and honor the achievements of 10 students who received the 2023-2024 UNB-FTU Entrance Awards.
These 10 students excelled in achieving the highest GPA among their peers in the Bachelor of International Business program at the University of New Brunswick (Canada) this year.
The 2023-2024 UNB-FTU Entrance Awards is a prestigious scholarship awarded to students in the final two years of the Bachelor of Business Administration program at New Brunswick (Canada) who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance, social activities, and proficiency in English.
To be eligible for this scholarship, the students successfully completed 2 years of study in Vietnam, obtained a certificate of participation in extracurricular activities, and met the IELTS requirements to transfer to the University of New Brunswick in Canada.
