From July 17 to July 21, 2023, a delegation from Foreign Trade University, led by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Thu Huong, Vice President of FTU, embarked on a significant visit to the University of Queensland in Australia. The University of Queensland boasts a prestigious position in the top 50 universities worldwide, as recognized by the QS Ranking.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Brett Lovegrove, Pro-Vice-Chancellor responsible for global partnerships at The University of Queensland. During the meeting and collaborative sessions, Mr. Lovegrove expressed the University of Queensland's strong desire to establish a comprehensive partnership with Foreign Trade University, one that encompasses various facets of higher education.

To pave the way for detailed agreements, which are expected to be finalized during the forthcoming visit to Vietnam by the President of The University of Queensland in October 2023, the delegation from Foreign Trade University engaged with several departments of the University. Notably, the focus was on the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law - the largest faculty at the University of Queensland, with an impressive 15,000 students studying across three schools (the School of Business, the School of Economics, and the School of Law), and two prominent research centers (the Australian Institute of Business and Economics, and the Center for Business and Health Economics).

The two sides discussed and agreed on developing an honours training program according to a creative cooperation model, which focuses on flexibility and interdisciplinary, increasing the choice of training majors and career approach methods, with the participation of professors from the University of Queensland, offering students the opportunity to earn two degrees, one from the University of Queensland and another from Foreign Trade University. This initiative marks the University of Queensland's first cooperation model to be introduced in Vietnam.

Moreover, with the aim to evolve into an Innovation University, the delegation also engaged with the University of Queensland's Venture Startup Department to explore avenues for potential collaboration.

Within the framework of the official visit to Vietnam of the US Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen, the conference 'Women in Economics and Finance: Economic Outlook and Climate Finance' took place at the Foreign Trade University (FTU) on July 21.

Panelists atthe conference included Janet Yellen, the US Secretary of the Treasury; Nguyen Thi Hong, Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam; Dang Quoc Khanh, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment; and Bui Anh Tuan, FTU president. They shared views and raised policy recommendations to strengthen cooperation to address global challenges in the economy and on climate change.

Throughout the conference, speakers shed light on the ongoing difficulties faced by the world economy in the post-Covid-19 era, such as persistent high inflation, trends toward monetary tightening, disruptions in supply chains, sluggish economic growth, and the looming specter of recession. In addition to these macroeconomic hurdles, countries worldwide are grappling with the profound challenges brought about by climate change. These issues are negatively affecting the production and business activities of enterprises as well as the overall quality of life for people.

Furthermore, significant time at the conference was devoted to exploring solutions to confront climate change. Mr. Dang Quoc Khanh, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment stressed that climate change is an irreversible trend and currently stands as one of the most critical challenges facing humanity. Responding to climate change has become a paramount global focus, impacting all development decisions on a global scale. As one of the countries which are most severely impacted by climate change, Vietnam has consistently demonstrated a proactive and responsible approach, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the changing climate. The nation has taken concrete steps towards greening its development model. At the recent COP26 conference, Vietnam made a commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Additionally, it ratified the Political Declaration, establishing a just energy transition partnership (JETP) with partners from within and outside the G7.

The conference underscored the crucial role and concerns of female and the heightened awareness and determination of the younger generation in coming together to address global challenges, with climate change at the forefront. Their collaborative efforts aim to pave the way for a greener, more sustainable, and prosperous future for all.

In a significant event on April 19, 2023, Mr. Thomas J. Vilsack, the US Secretary of Agriculture, visited Foreign Trade University, where he shared his insights on the topic "Vietnam's Vibrant Future for the Next Generation" with an audience of over 370 students.

The university's welcoming committee included Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Party Committee and University President, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Thi Thu Thuy, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairwoman of University Council, and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Thu Huong, Vice President, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Cao Dinh Kien, Director of Office of International Affairs, and heads and deputy heads of other units, as well as teachers and students.

The visit by the US Secretary of Agriculture was a vital step towards strengthening agricultural cooperation between the United States and Vietnam. This visit aimed to further solidify the already robust partnership between the two nations, as they jointly pursue common objectives, including regional security, economic prosperity, climate change mitigation, and the nurturing of deep and meaningful relations between their peoples.

Mr. Vilsack, the US Secretary of Agriculture, engaged with the students during the visit, underscoring the profound significance of US-Vietnam relations for the future generation of leaders. He also placed great emphasis on the pivotal role of agricultural innovation and trade in ensuring a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and food-secure future.

US Secretary of Agriculture Thomas J. Vilsack reaffirmed the United States' unwavering commitment to sharing crucial information and best practices with Vietnam to address and adapt to the challenges of climate change. In his address, he highlighted the newly unveiled US initiative, the Climate Smart Agriculture Partnership. This initiative is designed to encourage and promote the development and adoption of sustainable agricultural and forestry products, contributing to environmental sustainability and food security.

During this enlightening event, three talented female students from Foreign Trade University had the opportunity to share their personal stories, projects, and journeys as they pursue their passions. Their engaging presentations were warmly received by the US Secretary of Agriculture and the accompanying delegation.

As part of a brief visit to Vietnam at the invitation from the Government of Vietnam, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), graced the Foreign Trade University on the afternoon of May 18, 2023, for an enlightening session on trade and an exchange with the university's teachers and students.

In attendance from the government side were key figures including Ms. Dinh Thu Hang, Deputy Chief of International Cooperation Department at the Government Office, and Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Head of the Permanent Representative Delegation of Vietnam in Geneva.

On the Foreign Trade University front, participants included Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Anh Tuan, the Party Committee Secretary and President, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Thi Thu Thuy, the Party Committee Deputy Secretary and Chairwoman of University Council, and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Trinh Thi Thu Huong, Vice Dean of the Schoolof Economics and International Business, and Director of the WTO Chair Program at Foreign Trade University; Members of the Management Board of the WTO Chair Program at FTU, along with heads and deputies of university units, and more than 300 students.

Expressing his gratitude to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and her delegation, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Anh Tuan emphasized that the visit by the Director-General of the WTO underscores the WTO's profound interest, as well as that of Ms. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala personally, in the specific implementation of the WTO Chair program and in enhancing the training and quality improvement of human resources in international trade at the school.

Addressing the audience, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the WTO Director-General, expressed her delight at the opportunity to engage with the teachers and students of Foreign Trade University - Vietnam's premier institution of higher learning. She saw this as a valuable chance to interact with leading scholars and the future leaders of Vietnam. Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala also expressed her pride in the fact that Foreign Trade University has been part of the WTO's WTO Chair Program since 2021.

Within the program's framework, a discussion took place with the intriguing theme of "Re-globalization and Global Supply Chains." The conversation featured insights from Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the WTO Director-General, and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Trinh Thi Thu Huong, Vice Dean of the Schoolof Economics and International Business who also serves as the Director of the WTO Chair Program at Foreign Trade University. The topic of the discussion holds particular relevance in a world transitioning from globalization to re-globalization, as it grapples with challenges like inequality, climate change, and health crises. During this transition, companies are increasingly decentralizing production to safeguard against supply chain disruptions.

On May 17, 2023, a delegation from the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) paid a visit to Foreign Trade University to delve into the "Innovating International Higher Education" model.

This engaging program attracted around 100 young leaders between the ages of 22-35, hailing from 10 ASEAN countries and Timor Leste. Participants encompassed a diverse spectrum, including educators, administrators, policymakers, and experts. This initiative was a vital component of the Young Southeast Asia Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) 2023 Regional Conference focusing on Innovating International Higher Education.

The event also featured notable figures, including Ms. Francesca Lichauco, the YSEALI Coordinator from the US Embassy, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Truong Thi Nam Thang, Director of the Center for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the National Economics University, as well as Dr. Dao Thanh Tung, Head of International Cooperation Department at the same institution.

Representing Foreign Trade University were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Anh Tuan – University President; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Cao Dinh Kien, Director of Office of International Affairs; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Thi Thu Ha - Director of FTU Innovation and Incubation Space (FIIS), Mr. Nguyen Huyen Minh – Head of Communications and Public RelationsDepartment, along with university officials, faculty members, and students.

In his address, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Anh Tuan, President of Foreign Trade University, extended a warm welcome to the YSEALI delegation as they arrived and explored the university's strategies for internationalizing education. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Anh Tuan emphasized the shared commitment of YSEALI and Foreign Trade University in nurturing the skills and potential of young people who represent not only the future of their respective nations but also the future of the region and the world.

The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) stands as a U.S. Government program dedicated to advancing leadership development and fostering connections within Southeast Asia. Launched in 2013, the initiative encompasses American educational and cultural exchanges, regional dialogues, and financial support. YSEALI aims to cultivate youth leadership in the region, enhance ties between the United States and Southeast Asia, and promote a cohesive ASEAN community. Key areas of focus for YSEALI revolve around subjects of significant relevance to young people in the region, including civic engagement, environmental and natural resource management, entrepreneurship, and economic development.

On the morning of March 24, 2023, H.E. Marc E. Knapper, the US Ambassador to Vietnam, paid a visit to Foreign Trade University and shared insights on the topic of "ElevatingUS-Vietnam Economic Relations" with over 300 students, including students at the university's Hanoi headquarters as well as its campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ninh.

The program was graced by the presence of notable figures from the US Embassy in Vietnam, including H.E. Marc E. Knapper, the Ambassador, Ms. Kate Bartlett, the United States Cultural Attaché, Mr. Christopher Ellis, the Economic Officer, and other Embassy staff.

On the side of Foreign Trade University, representatives included Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Anh Tuan, President of Foreign Trade University, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Thu Huong, the Vice President, Dr. Nguyen Binh Minh, the Director of the Quang Ninh Campus, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Cao Dinh Kien, Director of Office of International Affairs, Ms. Dao Thi Thu Ha, Deputy Director of Office of International Affairs, along with the heads and deputy heads of university units, officials, teachers and numerous students.

Ambassador Marc E. Knapper, speaking on the theme of "ElevatingUS-Vietnam Economic Relations," highlighted that in the post-COVID-19 pandemic context, the doors for international cooperation have only just reopened. Vietnam stands as a market with robust growth and numerous potential opportunities for American business partners. In 2022, Vietnam emerged as one of the United States' top eight partners, with the US becoming Vietnam's first-ever export market to surpass the $100 billion/year milestone, thus becoming Vietnam's largest export market in 2022.

Emphasizing the crucial role of the younger generation, H.E. Marc E. Knapper stressed the importance of equipping young individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a diverse working environment. Notably, Foreign Trade University was recognized as a key institution that helps young people gain access to an international learning and working environment.

Ambassador also commended Foreign Trade University for its initiative in hosting the 6th Forum on Internationalization in Higher Education (FIHE 6) on March 16, recognizing the institution as a leader in international collaboration, which forms a solid foundation for cooperation with US educational institutions.

On March 16, 2023, the Foreign Trade University successfully hosted The 6th forum on internationalization in higher education (FIHE) with the theme "Campus-in-Campus: Innovative Models for Internationalization of Higher Education Institutions."

The forum attracted over 200 delegates representing more than 80 domestic and foreign educational institutions, organizations, businesses and 25 embassies in Vietnam. The three main speakers at the 6th FIHE were Professor Rongyu Li – Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Queensland (Australia); Mr. Adrian Veale, a Senior Expert at the European Commission; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong, Vice President of Foreign Trade University.

In attendance from Foreign Trade University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Anh Tuan, Party Committee Secretary and President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Thu Thuy, Party Committee Deputy Secretary and Chairwoman of University Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong, Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc Tien, Vice President; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cao Dinh Kien, Director of Office of International Affairs, along with department heads and their deputies, staff, teachers, and students.

The 6th Forum on Internationalization in Higher education (FIHE 6) featured the theme: "Campus-in-Campus: Innovative Models for Internationalization of Higher Education Institutions."

The forum included three presentations by the main speakers, titled as follows: "Sustainable Development in Internationalization of Higher Education" by Professor Rongyu Li, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Queensland (Australia); "When European Universities Contemplate the Future - The Role of Cross-Border Cooperation" by Mr. Adrian Veale, a Senior expert at the European Commission; and "Campus-in-Campus Project - A Perspective from Vietnamese Higher Education" by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong, Vice President of Foreign Trade University.

A highlight of FIHE 6 was the exhibition on the internationalization of education. At the exhibition, Foreign Trade University's partners had booths showcasing their educational internationalization activities, with a focus on the "campus-in-campus" theme. This exhibition provided a platform for stakeholders in the higher education ecosystem to share more detailed insights into their experiences, lessons, and key points when implementing internationalization activities in higher education.
