On September 7th, a ceremony to launch the contest: Talented Auditors Cup - Talented Auditors 2016 was held at Lien Viet Conference Room, 10th Floor, A Building, Foreign Trade University (FTU), 91 Chua Lang, Hanoi.

In two days (5th-6th, September, 2016), Training Workshop “International Investment Dispute Settlement under EU – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement” was held at Lien Viet Conference Room, 10th Floor, A Building, Foreign Trade University, 91 Chua Lang, Hanoi with the participation of guest lecturers, representatives of EU delegation in Vietnam, lecturers of Universities & Colleges in CLE’s network and representatives of teams applying FIAM.

On August 11th 2016, Foreign Trade University (FTU) had a meeting and discussion with Mr. Rev. James J. Maher - the President of Niagara University, USA.

1960-1962: Faculty of International Relations

Department of Foreign Trade, which is in Faculty of International Relations of University of Economics and Finance under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was formally established in 1960. The first class of 1960-1966 intake and the third class of 1962-1967 intake were enrolled in the Faculty of International Relations.

On 20th June, 1962, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong signed a Decree to separate the Faculty of International Relations from the University of Economics and Finance and establish the University of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, which is under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

1962-1967: University of Foreign Affairs – Foreign Trade

The campus of the University of Foreign Affairs – Foreign Trade was in the current location of both Foreign Trade University and Institute of Foreign Affairs. The University was responsible for training undergraduates for both Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Trade. There were two faculties in the university, Faculty of Foreign Affairs and Faculty of Foreign Trade. During the war time, the university campus was moved to Thai Nguyen province. Also, the forth and fifth intake were enrolled.

1967 – 1984: Foreign Trade University.

On the 14th August, 1967, Prime Minister Pham Van Dong signed a Decree to split the University of Foreign Affairs-Foreign Trade into the University of Foreign Affairs, which was under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade University (FTU), which was under the Ministry of Foreign Trade. At the same time, FTU campus was moved to Ha Tay province. By this time, the first and second intake had already graduated. Also, the first president of FTU was selected. There were more faculties in FTU including Faculty of Foreign Trade Practices, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Executive Training, and Department of Politics. The training activities started to be expanded to encompass both full-time and part-time training. By the end of 1967, FTU campus was moved again to Hanoi.

1984-1999: Expanding training activities and improving training quality.

In 1984, FTU was transferred from the Ministry of Foreign Trade to the Ministry of Education and Training. FTU’s bodies including Board of Governors, Committee of Communist Party, Faculties, Departments, Labor Union, Youth Union... were being reorganized and strengthened. In 1993, Ho Chi Minh City campus was established, contributing to the expansion of FTU. In 1995 and 1998, respectively, master programs and PHD programs were offered.

1999 to now: Being improved continuously and integrated internationally.

 

Foreign Trade University, or FTU, is a university established in 1960, located in Hanoi, Vietnam. FTU is among the most well-known universities in Vietnam, covering a wide range of business courses among which are finance, management, and marketing. The annual admissions test to the university is the most competitive in Vietnam. Students from FTU are recognized as being active and well-qualified.

The university also has campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Hạ Long - Quảng Ninh.

It has both undergraduate and graduate programs for foreign students. These courses are taught in Vietnamese, English, and French. In the fall semester 2012, the FTU welcomed undergraduate exchange students from the US, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Japan and South Korea, who stayed mostly for one semester but in parts also for two. Besides student exchanges as a part of an academic partnership, the FTU also allows self-organized exchange semesters (commonly known as "Free Mover" semesters).

9. Academic Research Activities

Annually, the FTU has about 8 to 10 research works carried out at state, ministerial and university levels. Additionally, the FTU has a network of business circles with researches, seminars, workshops and conferences on business matters (both theoretical and practical terms). These assist FTU in improving teaching materials and training quality. Research works also offer businesses more access to business environment, practices and legal aspects.

10. International Relations

- A number of foreign companies such as Sumitomo Corporation, Kumagai Gami Company (Japan), Vina-Debon (Korea) and Hasebe Bank provide scholarships to FTU students who have outstanding results in their studies.

- FTU has connections with a number of universities and colleges such as University of Hawaii, California State University at Riverside, University of Buffalo (USA); Osaka International University, Tokyo Keizai University, Kobe University of Marketing and Distribution Sciences (Japan); Bejing University of International Business and Economics (China); University of Tours (France); Bangkok University (Thailand); Aalborg University, Copenhagen Business School (Denmark); Cambridge University, Birmingham University (UK), etc. These connections are reflected in the exchanges of information, research/training programmes and lecturers/students.
