At the signing ceremony, Rector Hoang Van Chau and Vice Rector Vu Sy Tuan welcomed the delegation from Keio University. Prof. Tatsuya Sakamoto, Vice-President for International Collaboration and Education, and other Keio faculty members who were in Hanoi for the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Initiative: Summer Workshop 2006 also attended the ceremony. This agreement marks a very important step for Keio University in its efforts to explore opportunities for exchange and collaborative activities in Vietnam.
FTU is one of the most in-demand universities in Vietnam these days and has produced many diplomats, politicians and leaders in various fields. FTU has been providing high quality Japanese language education since 1970 and currently has more than 200 students studying Japanese. From autumn 2006, FTU will launch a Japanese language and culture course with 40 students. Vice-President Sakamoto discussed with Rector Hoang Van Chau how they can explore opportunities for effective exchange between the two universities and agreed to keep the dialogue open for further discussion.
