Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Vice President of FTU attended the ASEM Conference 

From March 30th to March 31st, the ASEM Conference on Creative Education and Human Resource Development for Sustainable Development took place at Hue city.

The conference was organized based on the initiative of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the 11th ASEM Summit in 2016 which was held in Ulanbato, Mongolia. This conference was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and the Ministry of Labour, War invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA).

The Conference provided a platform for ASEM Partners to validate best practices in promoting quality and innovative education for human resource development and consolidate proposals for ASEM’s new Vision for Education, including ASEM’s new Skills Agenda, and concrete measures to equip the young generation with 21st- century skills and qualities needed to achieve a skilled, adaptable and professional workforce in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Attending the opening session were: Mr. Vu Duc Dam - Deputy Prime Minister - Secretariat Member of Party Central Committee, Mr. Phung Xuan Nha - Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training - Secretariat Member of Party Central Committee, Mr. Bui Thanh Son - Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Secretariat Member of Party Central Committee, Mr. Doan Mau Diep - Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Labour, War invalids and Social Affairs, Le Luong Minh, ASEAN Secretary General, Mr. Le Luong Minh - ASEAN Secretary-General, Mr. Nguyen Van Cao - Chairman of Thua Thien Hue People’s Committee

On behalf of the international delegates, there were: Ms. Anita Lehikoinen - Deputy Minister of Education and Culture of Finland, Gwang-Jo Kim - Director of the UNESCO office for education in the Asia-Pacific region, together with 180 domestic and foreign delegates from 53 members of the Asia–Europe Meeting (ASEM) and representatives of the Department of Education, Department of Foreign Affairs of provinces and cities nationwide and leaders of some major universities.

From Foreign Trade University (FTU), there were the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Vice President.

Mr. Vu Duc Dam - Deputy Prime Minister delivered an opening speech at the ASEM Conference 

Innovative Education and Human Resources Building for Sustainable Development opened in Thua Thien Hue province on March 30. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam attended the conference and delivered the opening speech. He stated that “in today’s era of science and technology, especially in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, education and high-quality human resource development are ever more essential.” Emphasizing the importance of the continuation and expansion of ASEM’s many initiatives and projects, he highlighted the need of “a generation of global citizens with a sense of responsibility not only for their community and nation but also for the common problems of the world, the future of human civilization and this planet.”

The conference, which will last through March 31 with 8 activities, has focused on sharing experience and discussing the following contents: the role of education and human resources in sustainable development in the 21st century: new skills and new requirements in the digital era; opportunities, challenges, and roles of policy makers, educators, investment funds, businesses, etc; practices and lessons learned in Asia and Europe, Eurasian example in promoting innovative education and high-quality human resources, especially in the sectors of IT application, transnational education, vocational training, university autonomy, etc.; from vision to action: strengthening Eurasian cooperation in the sectors of innovative education and human resources building for sustainable development, suggesting specific solutions for ASEM cooperation.

Mr. Phung Xuan Nha - Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training gave a speech at the ASEM Conference 

At the closing ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha said Vietnam’s education and training are under fundamental and comprehensive reform towards a modern and world integrated education. He called for ASEM members’ greater efforts and renewals to build a modern education and meet the demands of jobs.

The conference was an important preparation for the 6th ASEM Education Ministers’ Meeting in Seoul (the Republic of Korea) and the 13th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Nay Pyi Taw (Myanmar) in November 2017, and the 12th ASEM Summit in Brussels (Belgium) in 2018.
