International Conference of "Environmental Protection and Community Health: Experience of France, Europe and Vietnam"

On May 24th, 2018, under the auspices of the French Embassy in Vietnam, the Association of Legal Cooperation of Europe - Vietnam co-operated with Foreign Trade University (FTU) to organize an international conference on "Environmental Protection and Community Health: Experience of France, Europe and Vietnam".

Environment and food hygiene and safety are the issues that attract not only the policy-makers but also the research community and the practitioners of the community. Therefore, in the international context of many changes on economic, commercial and environmental, especially when climate change is complicated and has strong impact on people's lives, so the settlement of environmental and public health issues have become more important than ever.

This international conference is one of the important activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France.

On the side of FTU, there was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Anh Tuan - President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Thu Thuy - Vice President, leaders of units and a large number of teachers.

The conference was honored to welcome Mr. Bertrand Lortholary - Ambassador of the Republic of France to Vietnam, Ms. Folliot Ngo Thi My Hanh - Chairwoman of French National Federation of Lawyers together with lawyers, experts.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Anh Tuan - President of FTU warmly welcomed the French Ambassador, experts, researchers, scholars and lecturers who came to the seminar. He emphasized that the protection of the environment and public health is not the only task of FTU but also of the whole society and the environmental issues need to join hands by the whole community. The conference is a necessary activity and it brings high practical value in the context of changing environment and climate in the world.

On this occasion, the President of FTU also gave his sincere thanks to the French Embassy, ​​Ministries, donors for contributing to the overall success of the conference. It opened many important orientations for FTU in developing partnerships and community.

Presentations at the conference addressed issues related to environmental protection and public health: Technical issues related to environmental protection and public health such as space technologies for environmental services, risk of salt intrusion, water quality, household and construction waste management, community health care in disasters; Economic issues of environmental protection such as: Government spending on environmental protection, the facilities are classified for environmental protection; Legal issues on environmental protection and public health; Entities and actors in environmental protection and public health.

The conference will be an opportunity for policy makers, researchers with multi- dimensional view which were presented as well as discussed on relevant issues. In particular, the presentations, Policies and practices from Europe and the French Republic related to this issue will be valuable lessons in the process of building, improving and solving practical problems of Vietnam.
